Purposes

Service, exchange, charity, and a voice for Taiwan

Our Purpose

Community

Serve the community we live in

Turning out for local and congressional elections as poll workers and volunteers, hosting voter-information tables, and taking part in the civic life of Santa Clara County.

Charity

Give, and organize others to give

Disaster relief for Taiwan, scholarships, and support for local non-profits. When something happens back home, this is the phone tree that raises the money.

Network

Connect Silicon Valley and Taiwan

Our members build chips, networks and companies on both sides of the Pacific. SBTA is where those introductions get made — over dinner, at talks, and through the members' newsgroup.

Advocacy

Speak up for Taiwan

Supporting Taiwan's democracy and its international participation, and making sure our American neighbors know where Taiwan is and who Taiwanese people are.

History

1971

Early Founding in South Bay

A group of Taiwanese graduate students and young engineers in San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Cupertino gather to establish the fellowship, planting the roots of the association.

1980s

Silicon Valley Tech Boom & Democracy

With the rise of semiconductors and IC design, SBTA members forge deep ties between Silicon Valley and Hsinchu Science Park, while actively advocating for Taiwan's democratization.

1999

921 Earthquake Transpacific Relief

Following the devastating 921 earthquake in Taiwan, SBTA swiftly mobilizes the Bay Area tech community to raise emergency funds and deliver humanitarian support across the Pacific.

2010s

Next-Gen Heritage & Civic Engagement

Actively empowering second-generation Taiwanese Americans, supporting voter registration, poll staffing, and participating broadly in Bay Area multicultural society.

2020s

Over Half a Century of Community

More than 50 years on, SBTA remains the most reliable anchor for Taiwanese families in Silicon Valley, linking technological innovation, culture, and social contribution.
